Delivering Improvement for Secondary Schools and Academies
Perspective promotes and maintains continuous interaction between self review and improvement planning giving leaders access to information about the status of evaluations and plans throughout their school. This can range from the whole school to the individual contributions of members of departments or teams. Leaders can identify issues quickly and easily, and make sure that plans are focussed on key priorities, real improvement and impact.
Perspective provides a secure store for all the evidence related to a school or departmental inspection, plus the facility to gather the views of stakeholders from within and external to the school. This leads to robust and shared understanding of strengths, areas targeted for improvement, and collaborative involvement in the process; essential parts of an Ofsted inspection or internal review. All of these processes are linked directly to performance management, meaning plans and actions are relevant to individuals and to the institution as a whole.
Departmental and whole school key priorities can be created and tracked in Perspective; senior leaders and heads of departments can view progress of plans and evaluate when necessary. School leaders can also ensure school priorities are being tackled by disseminating targets across multiple departments. Perspective also provides middle leaders with a consistent scaffold to support them through the process of self evaluation and target setting by providing challenging questions, expert guidance, evidence sources and benchmarking statements. Perspective facilitates the monitoring of departments, ensuring consistency throughout, so that leaders can identify weaknesses, provide support, or recognise consistent themes or needs across multiple teams.
‘Using Perspective we have created a development plan (with clear deadlines and accountabilities) which addresses all of the key Ofsted focus areas. This plan has been cascaded down to our departments strengthening the links between departmental and whole school improvement. Our driver as an outstanding school (and now an Academy) is to make sure that we continue to improve. As the Headteacher, Perspective enables me toquickly monitor progress and view any evidence that departments generate. This has proven to be a powerful and time-saving feature and as an Academy, we will use it to monitor the delivery of our Funding Agreement with the DfE.’

‘Perspective has been adopted fully as the internal self-evaluation and improvement planning toolkit within Rivington and Blackrod High School. The web-based system allows for easy access, 24/7 for all staff, and the Bite Size Questions allow for a strategic approach to self-evaluation by our middle leaders. Its ease and accessibility has been well received by our staff and we continue to develop our thinking around it in conjunction with the Angel Solutions staff. The level of support and response has always been superb and we could not have wished for a better level of help and advice.
Having spent a long time looking at other products on the market and going into a lot of depth over their systems I can, without doubt, claim that Perspective is the market leader. Its detail and coherence is not achieved in any other product on the market claiming to do the same thing. Perspective is proving to be a very valuable tool; not only on the self evaluation front but also the “actions” button means that the School Improvement Plan is seamlessly produced. On top of this, the single central store of data, school documents, statistics, etc has made middle leadership tasks so much easier.
I am more than happy to demonstrate how we use it at Rivington and if you want to see our “RBHS Learning Journey” Framework to see how it fits into our self-evaluation. Hope you like it… we certainly do!!’
David Waugh, Deputy Head, Rivington and Blackrod High School, Bolton
