Figuring out what’s going on with changes to the latest Ofsted Framework usually means reading an awful lot of long, boring documents. We thought we’d be nice and break it down for you with this handy infographic.

NO SINGLE JUDGEMENT

No more “Overall Effectiveness” grade. There’s a more granular assessment, taking into account context and showing clear areas for improvement.

ELEVATED SAFEGUARDING

Now decoupled from the ‘leadership’ evaluation area, Safeguarding is reported as “Met” or “Not Met” in its own core evaluation area.

Inclusion at the Heart

New inclusion area with a focus on disadvantaged pupils, SEND and those known to social care. Inclusion is also embedded across all other areas.

SHIFT TO “SECURE FIT”

In a move away from “best-fit”, a grade should only be awarded when all standards are met.

Core Evaluation Areas

Grade Changes

Each area is graded separately

STAFF WELL-BEING

Inspections will end earlier in the day, schools can nominate a non-compulsory inspection liaison, and Ofsted can pause inspections if needed.

INSPECTORS & METHODOLOGY

One more inspector added to school inspection teams to ease school workload, and a shift away from “deep dives” to a more flexible, context-driven approach.

Context matters

Inspectors will start with a conversation about your school’s unique situation. How will you prepare & make the most of this to get the inspection you deserve?

AUTUMN 2025

The time to align your SEF, SIP and governance monitoring to the new EIF. Are your monitoring & evaluation systems fair, reliable & focused on driving ongoing development?

10th Nov 2025 onwards

School inspections resume, but Ofsted will prioritise volunteers for full inspections. Normal schedule will resume around December 1st (Depending on volunteer numbers).
